12-Bar Blues

12-Bar Blues is a chord progression that describes the number of measures in the form. In its most fundamental form, it uses tonic, subdominant, and dominant chords, though there are innumerable variations.

Song Form

The most common song takes a 32-measure form A A’ B A’, where each section is 8 measures. The A sections are the verses and the B section is the bridge. Examples of this form are innumerable, but popular examples include “Home on the Range” and “Frosty the Snowman.”

Strophic Form

Strophic Form is a form of music in which one verse, strophe, or stanza is repeated over and over. Examples of this form of music include “Amazing Grace,” and “Jingle Bells.”
